I think that I chose this class because, in the end, the media is what dictates much of what is taught to Americans in terms of social norms. We look to the media and history to define masculinity, femininity, sex, and gender and it is important to realize that maybe the media is teaching Americans that these definitions are limiting. We need to learn this and understand it and maybe, quite possibly, change it. Limits bother me.
I have spent 3 and a half years here at Denison as a Women's Studies Minor but this is the first time that I have decided to dedicate 4 credit hours to issues in the media and I am excited to see different POVs from those in the class who do not have the same education that I have.
